Commodities Derivatives Newsletter

Issue: March 2017

Olivier Raevel

Welcome to the March edition of our Commodities newsletter. We have seen some ‘firsts’ in recent months with first trades on our new Fertiliser Futures, and also on our innovative Wood Pellets futures. Find out more in this issue.

We’ve also seen good take-up of our New Market Participant programme, which allows market participants who are new to the Paris Commodities market to benefit from discounted trading and clearing fees. We continue to work on bringing new products to market.

In addition, we are implementing a new post-trade solution, the Euronext Chequers service. The service will, in phases, introduce electronic storage certificates to enhance the settlement and physical delivery of Euronext’s futures contracts and will lead ultimately to the launch of a fully-fledged warrants system. Chequers will also meet increasing demand from market participants for collateral upgrade opportunities.

Last month we said farewell to Xavier Beulin, the President of France’s largest Farmers’ Union, FNSEA, and President of Groupe Avril, a French leader in the oilseed industry, who has died aged 58. A key figure in the French agricultural community, Xavier gave a typically charismatic talk at our annual conference this January on the importance of the financial markets for agriculture. He fought alongside farmers, in their best interests, to develop a modern, competitive agriculture in France. Without his work in the oilseed industry, Euronext would never have been in a position to launch what has become the world’s most liquid rapeseed grain contract, over 23 years ago. We will never forget his contribution and deeply regret his loss.

Read on for more information on our new products and services, and as always, feel free to contact our team on if you’d like to discuss them further. You can catch up with the team in person this week at the Paris International Agribusiness Show, SIMA, on the Agritel stand in hall 5a, stand K 035.
